Pomegranates and a mini breakdown

It will be awhile before I can bring myself to make these again. A friend of mine asked for a couple loose ones, with one sliced open....so naturally, I made more and put some in a basket to sell as well. As I sat there, like a zombie, rolling seeds until the cows came home, I had the sudden urge to gouge my eyes out. This is probably much how Jocelyn felt when rolling grains of rice, except her hands broke out in involuntary spasms. The white part on the inside really isn't that stark white, but that happens frequently when I lighten my pics :-/.

  1. Those are awesome! I got a commission for pomegrante in 1/3 scale. I don't even know how you do 1/12 scale! Wonderful work!

  2. Did you roll each seed one by one? you must have Giobbe's patience. The result is wonderful but I could never ever think even to start with it. Bows to you Rosanna

  4. results are worth it Kiva ;)

i remember the same feeling, trying to resist the urge to gouge out my eyes, i've told Jocelyn and Asuka the same, i don't know how they do it. i am NEVER EVER going to roll individual rice, i will always, always ALWAYS cheat. :X

  5. Kiva, they are wonderful. It's pomegranate season here and they sell for about S$3 each! I fell in love with it when I ordered by mistake the most expensive fruit juice in the world and found out its pomegranate! Yours look like my S$3 ones sitting in my fridge right now. I eat them seed by seed so I guess you will have to roll each seed how people eat them..;p

  6. Thanks so much you guys!!

Betty, I have never seen your food! I've seen your gorgeous sewing work on Flickr, but never food- you will have to take pics :-D!

Hey Rosanna, yes, I did the hand rolling thing :-/. I kind of do that to start, then once I position the seeds, I mold them a bit more with my needle tool. It's arduous, for sure, hence the eye gouging impulse, lol!

Thank you so much, synnøve and Christel, my Swedish buddies :-D!!

  7. Susan, you might just gag when I tell you this, but I eat about half of the seeds whole, as in crunching on them. Pumpkin seeds, any kind of small seed, I pop the whole thing in my mouth. I also eat shrimp in the shell, shell and all :-/. Everyone throws their shrimp tails on my plate and I eat it. We were at a Japanese restaurant once and I ate the heads (it was full of eggs, which I love!), and the roof of my mouth started bleeding, profusely. You know the super sharp antenaee? Well, it harpooned my mouth. I sat there with tears streaming down my face. But damn, those eggs were tasty!

  8. HAHA!! Cindy, the "roll and chop" with rice is all I can handle now, I'm with you ;-). I did try a shortcut once with the pomegranates: I used super tiny no-hole beeds:-/. Somehow, it just didn't look so hot.

I am headed for another breakdown as we speak. I am making a bunch of pies and tarts with small body parts for a Sweeney Todd scene. Eyeballs, fingers, toes, noses...and freaking EARS! Never made an ear in my life!

  13. Really? You did not see the foods? My mini foods are all on my flickr. I need to organize my flickr more. I also like to cane a lot. That is my other weirdo obsession. No hole beads huh? I got so many I don't want to look at it. At least I know what to do with them now. Thanks for the suggestion!

  14. Thank you Karin, Joceyln, Cindy, and Kim! It is good to hear that the results were worth the near insanity ;-). I've made them before, but I think the PMS was making me very edgy. Sorry, TMI!!

Hey Betty, DOH!! That is very typical of me. Sometimes something can be right in front of my face and I don't "see" it. I focus on one spot and everything else dissapears! My God, you are one busy girl!! You do EVERYTHING miniature :-O!! I am off to go look at your website now, too :-D

  15. Hey, I thought I commented earlier this eve, I guess not! lol!

Kiva, it looks wonderful, very real. :)

I tried to say earlier, there will be no gouging out of the eyes in blogland. lol ;)

Off to look at Betty's website as well.

  16. Thank you Dale :-D!! The gouging of the eyes only comes when rolling a ton of tiny seeds, I promise ;-).

Cindy, no hair in these, but fingernails on fingers, yes ;-). You know, I never did see Sweeney Todd with Johnny Depp. Time for a torrent search!

Jocelyn, it WAS awhile before I could put another head in my mouth. Wait...that sounded strange. But seriously, it was brutal!

Ok Betty: sewing, knitting, pottery, and food. I suddenly feel like a lazy bum!

  17. How can anyone really write a comment for this work....I don't think they have invented a good enough adjective yet....one could say, amazing, wonderful, wow, beautiful, stunning...but I don't think these words are good enough for this miniature project!!

Regards, Linda.....I love them by the way!

  19. Kiva you are not lazy. That just means you are more dedicated to miniature foods than I am. I am more of a scatter brain. :X Honestly your foods are wonderful and don't you forget it!
