My submissions
I got my pieces back today, so I snapped a picture before sending them back again (I'm donating them, except for one). I was originally going to send in the set that is on my website (the first picture), but I eliminated the fruit and cheese platter, I redid the chicken and added peas and biscuits, and added the white nectarines. So, although it looks like I went over the limit of five, I pretended that the stuffed peppers went with the roast! Kind of weird, I know, but I was trying to "sneak it through"! I haven't received my critique yet, but I'll share it when it comes in. The picture is kind of small so you have to click on it to really see it a bit better :-/.

You are donating them? Wow! :). I often wondered about how you display your food or if you do it at all? Do you like have a mini personal museum? I am redoing my guest room so that it can also be a craft room (hopefully final touch up this weekend). I always imagine what your craft room is like because you have once briefly described your work area and how you have your tv up on your wall etc etc and how you are baking the same time you are watching the tele. I am trying to emulate that and maybe acquire a fraction of your talent by copying your work area. You think that will work?
ReplyDeleteOh Susan!!! You are already talented, you don't need any from me, you goof!! But a personal museum, that cracked me up :-D!! I don't keep any of my own stuff, apart from some old, hideous pieces that I come across every once in awhile (I try not to because it's frightening). I don't even have any room for a small dollhouse! My only piece is a roombox and it's 1/4" (it's a little dining room scene).
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE my very own workroom!! It would be heavenly. I'm in my bedroom, and there is a long table set up against one wall. There are a bunch of small bins on the table filled with supplies and one devoted to "extras" (spare fruit, shellfish, bread, vegetables, etc.). On one side of the table is my laptop, which is covered by a protective screen so I don't get powder and clay in the keyboard. My marble turntable is to the right of this, where the pieces I am working on sit. Behind the table are shelves with paint, chalks, spray paint, and lots of other small supplies. Between the shelves hangs a small television/dvd player, so I can listen and look while I am making stuff. I actually make stuff on a small tile which sits directly ON my laptop. This is convenient so that if I need to google pics of food or do anything else web related, it's already right in front of my face!! Beyond this setup is some tall shelving with more supplies (the clay mountain drawer, miniature display pieces, tons of paint, etc.)
Susan, I should have just taken a picture for you instead, lol!!!
Kiva, todo perfecto y precioso.
ReplyDeleteAdmiro tu trabajo!
It is nice to see know what people do with the IGMA guild submissions (and what to expect) when it is time for me! Thank you for sharing (and donating) your submission!
ReplyDeleteGracias, Teresa! ¡Admiro su trabajo también!!
ReplyDeleteBetty, I picked things that I make alot, and that I'm very "comfortable" with ;-). Meat, fish, veg, and fruit. Notice there is no dessert. Obviously, it's because I rarely make them! Pick those things that you know you can nail. I start making things far in advance, then I whittle them down. I made the chicken over again because my mom told me that the wings were too close to its body (in reality, they separate more from the body when cooked). Wings are tricky. I thought it looked fine, but she planted that damned seed, and it bugged the hell out of me, so I redid it! My mom is very critical, but in a good, constructive way. She has a great eye for detail and won't hesitate to pick stuff apart, which you sometimes need!
You know when you cook (I don't, but stay with me on this) and you spend all that time slaving over a hot stove, thinking that you're creating something fabulous? Then you serve it to people and find out that something is "off" or just tastes like shit? Well, my mom (and sometimes my sister) serves the same purpose. It makes me homicidal at times, but I listen
;-).
Hi Kiva
ReplyDeleteJust no chance to see that this is miniatures:)
Oh Christel!! A big MWAAA to you ;-)!! And YOU will become Artisan, mark my words. If it doesn't happen (but I already know it will), I will offer up my head. Yes, I will have it cut off, Anne Boleyn style!
ReplyDeleteWhy aren't you donating them to me? :D :D (what???)
ReplyDeleteThe food is truly wonderful!
Thanks Steph!!! And I say, once more, a BIG WOOOOOOOT for your articles in AM :-D!!!!!! Very well done!!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat work Kiva, as I expected! I haven't got mine back yet, apparently they were only posted to me this Monday(23rd) so it'll be a while yet....just hope it doesn't "get lost" in our hopeless postal system! Great idea to post the critique too...it'll be difficult to see what they can find to say other than fantastic!!
ReplyDeleteHey Linda! Thank you!! I want to see a pic of yours too!! OMG, don't say that, about it getting lost...that would be AWFUL! Linda, I'm positive that there will be something, critique wise, though. It will help peeps out to see what they say. It should be coming soon!
ReplyDeleteWOW!!!! What amazingly wonderful work....it is fantastic. I was a little sad to hear that you don't keep any...I think you should.
ReplyDeleteI am like Stephanie, ..if you need some-one to donate them to....please think of me...lol!
Seriously, you work is breathtaking!
Regards, Linda
Awww, thank you so much, Linda!! There was a time, earlier, when I kept some things, but I ended up selling them in the end.
ReplyDeleteI used to collect miniatures like mad, but I've sold most of them (mostly dolls, furniture, accessories, etc.). If I ever find more room for it, I'll have my mom build me something....then I'll start with the mad collecting again ;-)!
Everything you do is just so deeevine Kiva!!! These are just very, very special pieces - I do hope you actually like them yourself; and haven't been your usual critical self in 'your own mind' about your own work - these are superb; and I'll say it again - sooooooo well deserved, you are a major asset to the miniature world of food . . . I 'doff' my imaginary hat to you x
ReplyDeleteWOW!!! Carol, you are such a doll- thank you, thank you, thank you, my good friend :-)!!! But the same goes for YOU!!!!
