People in Hawaii LOVE their Spam! You can find Spam Musubi (riceballs with Spam) just about everywhere....every 7-11, gas station, you name it. Sometimes there is egg sandwiched between the rice and spam. Today I stopped by a market to pick up lunch to go (salmon, shrimp, and rice), and stopped dead in my tracks when I saw a big display of Spam flavored Macadamia Nuts!!!! WTF?? Here's a pic of the nuts and an old pic of some Spam Musubi that I made:

That's hilarious! I grew up eating Spam and now wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole. YUCK!!!
ReplyDeletePam
That is too flippin funny!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI was watching 50 First Dates yesterday and thought of you. It's filmed in Hawaii, which is so pretty and there was spam in the movie, too.
Too funny! ;)
HAHA!!! Pamela, I don't eat it very often, mostly on rice, like spam Musubi. I like it fried :-p.
ReplyDeleteDale, I never saw that one! I did see Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which was also filmed in Hawaii. No Spam, though ;-)!
I'm sorry but I've never heard of it. What's Spam? I read on Wiki that it's canned meat, is it true? thank you Rosanna
ReplyDeleteRosanna, it's really salty and really hammy tasting....and pink. It's gross, I hope you never have to try it.
ReplyDeleteKiva, yeah my mom used to fry it but, we didn't eat it w/rice although that would have cut the salty flavor. I will never eat it again...
Hey now! You have to try everything once! Well, almost everything ;-). I don't find it that hammy, because I'm not a big ham eater. It is quite salty, though, so yes, the rice does cut it a bit.
ReplyDeleteOnce my ex boyfriend tried Spam musubi (Spam with rice) he got so hooked that he started making it at home in Michigan. It's not the healthiest thing in the world, but fried and eaten with other stuff, I like it! Read this:

I read the article...I guess it's worth a trip to HI if you've never been there before.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend from HI that when she's pissed at her husband, she makes Spam casserole....ha ha ha.
EEEEW!!! Now, Spam casserole would make me barf. President Obama eats Spam Musubi when he's in town :-D!!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Adore fried Spam slices with breakfast. Apparently it is an acquired taste, but being from MN where Spam is made, you have to love it.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, I adore your work and think you are incredibly talented. Just found your blog, but love your features in Dollhouse Miniatures.
One of my ex-boyfriends used to eat it cold, out of the can with a spoon! *horf*
