Homework?
There is an Asian site that I bookmarked a long time ago named "Homework" and I thought I'd post a few pics that I liked. The first pic (beef stew?) is really good- it looks sooo juicy:
It looks just like a photo of the real thing, yes!! It's actually not difficult to make stew look like stew...just blanket that sucker in gravy, but that is some killer stew!!
I always wondered what they use to get their tempura to look like that. It's explained in one of my Japanese books, but of course, I can't read it :-/.
Wow!!!! Are you saying that the photo of the stew is not from a magazine, that it is in fact miniature!!!??? When I read what Rosanna wrote, I thought ..ooops she got tricked...BUT!!! OOOPS!!! am I'm the one that got well and truely tricked!!!???
Rosanna's comment is like the explanatory note because I too thought these are just reference photos of the real thing for you to make the minis. Haha! I was thinking "Why did Kiva pick such ordinary pics?"
I see she is selling the shop for 12000 yen. Maybe you can buy it and then reverse engineer her tempura. Seriously though, do you think she uses broken styrofoam for the tempura?
Linda, no doubt! Some of the most stunningly realistic food I've ever run across has been on Asian websites. And I'm not just talking about ethnic food, but desserts, pastries, you name it. It is a real treat for me to find them...and I just want to see MORE!
HAHA!!! Susan, you fell for it too!! And it's funny because I WAS going to make Sukiyaki at one time ;-). But she is selling her shop?? I don't get it. Her url or the shop with all the stuff in it!?
I don't think it's styrofoam, although it kind of has that look, doesn't it? In my Japanese book, it kind of looks like something is mixed and dripped on!? I'll tell you what- I am going to go pounding on one of my neighbhoor's doors. She is from Japan. I once made shrimp tempura but it sure didn't look like that!
Kiva, if you go to this link, http://page11.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/n77235329 , you will see that she is selling her mini shop for 12k yen.
You have a Japanese neighbour???? What are you waiting for? Don't forget to share the secret although it is unlikely that my Maharajah will want tempura or me making mini food any time soon :).
How unusual...yes, she is! I didn't even know that Yahoo still had auctions!!
HAHA!! I am going to go hunt down my Japanese neighbour tomorrow. She's very sweet, always dropping by with food she has made or snacks she brought back from Japan. She moved over here and married a local surf instructor. Maybe I should ask her to translate that book you gave me too...which is SO genius, by the way ;-)!
When I saw the pic I truly thought it was real stew that you were using as a model. It's unbelievable!! Rosanna
ReplyDeleteWow, that's insane. I read rosanna's comment and my first thought was, "it's not?" I had to go check it out right away.
