Mixed fruit bowl and Red Stripe Rockfish

I piled a bunch of fruit in this gorgeous handturned bowl that my buddy Thomas Saunders made.
And I made more fish since...well, there are so many types of fish to make! Someone contacted me today to compliment me on my fish, which was high praise indeed, considering the fact that he is a phenomenal sculptor, who has life-sized pieces in museums!! As in, a moving dinosaur :-O!! He makes smaller animals as well, and wants to get into making miniatures. Once he does, you can bet that I will will feature his work here!!

  2. Yes, your fish are beautiful. But I love the bowl of fruit too. Do you sell anything online? I couldn't find a link on your website.

  3. As always Kiva, it is just beautiful!!! You amaze me.
I have also wondered how people buy your work because I can't find a way to order anything either.

  10. Wow, thank you everyone!! You've made my Friday!!
Jean, your miniature paintings are jaw dropping!!

I sell on ebay under the username jklr4 (Carolyn, you nailed the initial thing, you sneaky bugger ;-)). I also do commissions- usually people see stuff on my website, Flickr, or ebay and ask me to make stuff.

  12. Aaack!!! Kiva what are you doing to me! My blog isn't really even a blog yet, LOL. But I'm glad I at least figured out how to make it work where you can see something.
Ok, so ......what do those initials stand for?? I'm going to guess family member initials.

  15. For those of you who thinks Kiva post pictures of real fruits/food, I totally understand your confusion :). But I can assure you that all your doubts will be cast away if you hold one of her creations in your hand. I am one of the fortunate ones who owned some Indian food from her. Not only do they look real, they feel real. Eg her flatbreads and basmati rice. I don't know whether they taste real . Maybe someone else can tell us.

Did I not tell you to put a link to your store on your blog, Kiva? :)

  18. Hi Kiva,

The color of the fish is superb, and your fruit look 'living' like you magically reduced them to miniatures, they do not look like clay at all :)

  20. Susan, an endorsement form you, my dear, is as good as gold!! MWUAAAA!!!!! The reason why I never put a link to my ebay or pushed the selling thing is because I didn't want my blog to be about that...do you know what I mean? In other words, post a pic, then a link to bid/buy. Not that there is anything wrong with that!!! In fact, I have gotten more inquiries and questions about buying since I started this, which is GREAT, but it was never my intention (although it's how I make a living). I just wanted someplace better than Flickr and my broke ass website to post new pics, AND put a spotlight on other artists!! And, ok, I admit it, get goofy and talk about other stuff as well ;-).

"Promoting" and putting myself out there, ie, the business side of things, has never been my strong point. Can you tell?? LOL!! People have asked why I never put IGMA Artisan or Fellow in my titles (although I include it in the descriptions). Honestly, it shouldn't matter. There are far too many non-IGMA members who produce phenomenal work, and it shouldn't be a selling point (at least, to me). It is really nice to have, but not the be all and end all. I just crank it out, and move on to the next thing. Once something is made, I dont really think about it anymore. It is past, it is out of my hands, and I just go on to the next. I do pour all my energy and focus into it, then the slate is wiped clean and it is time for something new.

That is, unless I make something that I think looks like shit, then over the balcony it goes, hahaha!!!!

p.s. all my listings with the blurbs at the end of the descriptions about magazine stuff? That is my mom. She edits all my listings to include that. If I had my way, she would cut that shit out!!

  21. Kiva, go easy on Linda!! She's a treasure!

Thanks for that last post - personally I've found that thinking about anything other than the actual piece in your hand that you're making is a distraction and steals from the creativity.
Your work is exceptional, and should never be taken for granted - a creative flow is never consistent, but you, my dear, keep going and keep producing!! Thankyou indeed.

Now, I'm thinking of getting you to make a mini fishing net and hang it off your balcony for me - who knows what I might find in it!!

I would post pics on my blog showing the treasures I have of yours but my husband might see and put two and two together and realise why I'm sooooo good at making very economical meals some weeks! Worth it, ten times over!!

  23. Awww Glenda!!! You are a treasure, my sweet!! I wouldn't want you to see the crap I throw over the balcony, though. You would not want it, trust me. This is why the trash bin isn't good enough. I have to get it as far away from me as physically possible, haha!! If I could flush it without fear of clogging the pipes, I would :-/.

Glenda, there is nothing I would love more than to have my own, private space without distraction. I would LOVE IT!!! I'm pretty good at tuning out, but sometimes it's impossible. And it pisses me off.
