Your tat sounds VERY ...Grace, I want to see a pic!! Your tat sounds VERY cool!! It's so true- and you did the right thing by thinking about what you REALLY wanted! That's like the first and MOST important rule about getting one. Make damned sure you can live with it for the rest of your life!

The guy who did my last one said he left it "open" so I could expand on it if I ever wanted to. I don't believe I ever will, though, lol!! I'm with you- I don't want something snaking up my entire left leg :-O!

The thing about Kat Von D. that blows my mind is the fact that she has an area on her body that she considers "free rein"!! She will let any one of her friends, especially NON tattoo artists, pick up the gun and tattoo her! I mean, including the nutcase, drugged out guy from "Jackass"!??Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00303004133649269237noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5553560040088946152.post-72583159529013097622010-01-23T15:51:35.080-10:002010-01-23T15:51:35.080-10:00"YES, they are addictive, totally. I mean, I ..."YES, they are addictive, totally. I mean, I would never venture into Kat Von D. territory (on the show LA Ink), but you do start thinking hmmm...what can I get next??"

I watch that show sometimes! The friend who did my tattoo (when he was just starting out) had one around his ankle that he started expanding, it was going up his leg to his knee the last time I saw him. Then a few years later I went back to get him to touch some things up, and I asked him how far his leg tattoo had grown - and he pulled up his sleeve! Between his own work and other artists', it had grown all the way up his leg, up his back, over his shoulder, and down his arm. Don't think I'd ever go that far! It definitely hurts more to get it done right over bone, although some fleshy areas are supposed to be really painful - a friend's mom once told me DON'T ever get one on your rear, women always think that's cute but apparently there are a lot of nerve endings there!

I'll have to get a picture of mine one of these days. I designed it myself, spent about a year working on it before I got it done (at the age of 19 - wanted to be REAL sure I'd still like it when I'm 80!) It incorporates aspects of my family tree, basically - a griffin/gryphon, some Irish knotwork and other old Celtic designs, few more things. It looks vaguely heraldic, although that wasn't my intention. But since it does, I want to expand on that theme and add a heraldic "mantle," only instead of the usual folds of cloth or ribbon I want to use traditional Penobscot (Native) floral designs. One of these days...

- GraceTreeFeathershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09411797975979760931noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5553560040088946152.post-57005896353882613942010-01-22T18:07:03.456-10:002010-01-22T18:07:03.456-10:00LOL!!! Then again, the Chinese characters are beautiful and I do take my culture for granted a lot!

Kiva, you went through all that pain and there were no colours? If yours is blah, mine is totally anti-climatic! But I will post it as a form of miniature art on my other blog.

I hope Grace and Cindy will post theirs too ! Will be so fun to see everyone's tatts.Sans!https://www.blogger.com/profile/07142349451568183257noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5553560040088946152.post-77355928151761987232010-01-21T19:10:05.181-10:002010-01-21T19:10:05.181-10:00Thanks guys!! I'd love to see everyones!!

Kim, it is rather painful, but can be more or less so depending on where you get it done. I think the ribcage area is supposed to be kind of gnarly!

Thanks Lori! As much as I love ethnic food, I also love a good old American breakfast ;-).

Grace, I want to see yours! YES, they are addictive, totally. I mean, I would never venture into Kat Von D. territory (on the show LA Ink), but you do start thinking hmmm...what can I get next?? The one on my right shoulderblade would be kind of a classic one- I was thinking a cross with red roses and the dates of my dad's life. I am not really religious, but I like the imagery. Maybe no cross? Gah, I'd better decide quick!!! That's funny about "egodad", lol!! He was the kindest, funniest, most generous person...who also had a healthy ego :-D! I mean, he was always "well maintained". Tanning salon, manicures....plus I used to give him pedicures, haha!!! I once shaved off all the hair from his feet and he started liking it so I did that every week.

Cindy, show me!! And yes, I have heard that about the Asian writing!! We went to an old man in Chinatown San Francisco and had him translate. Oh man, I was gripping that table. It was an akward postion too, on my side, balancing on my hip.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00303004133649269237noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5553560040088946152.post-52016025972256690632010-01-21T14:06:48.458-10:002010-01-21T14:06:48.458-10:00wow nice job on the tattoos! that artist is pretty...wow nice job on the tattoos! that artist is pretty good :O

and you know there's always this joke about how some people get tattoos in a foreign language, and the artist plays punk on them by tattooing the characters upside down or deliberately mis-spelt XD at least yours isn't hwa hwa hwa!

i should go touch-up mine too, but i've found that as i soften over the years, my threshold for pain has diminished somewhat too :(Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13470979321107028126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5553560040088946152.post-79581848160326120672010-01-21T14:01:13.909-10:002010-01-21T14:01:13.909-10:00Ok I always seem to get the most eerily appropriat...Ok I always seem to get the most eerily appropriate captchas when I post on your blog - this time it was "egodad" (you know, cuz you were talking about your dad and all.)
